WALHT: create a brochure.

The focus of my brochure was to convince others to stop polluting Omaru Creek. I think that we need a clean creek because it helps the environment and it is also important to the Glen Innes community. I think that you should all consider helping to clean the Omaru creek .

WALT: make a 30/40 second movie- Te Taiao o Tāmaki.

WALT: make a 30/40 second movie.

Whe are studying about omaru creek and we are making a 30/40 second movie. I have Sive, Siunipa and Rebecca in my group and we are making our movie based on the plants and trees that are on the banks of Omaru Creek. We have started on our storyboard and we are planning on making our movie sometime this week.

Omaru Creek- Metaphor Poem.

Nataliya is a big and tall cabbage tree that always provides shade.

Nataliya is the water that flows fast.

Nataliya is a old bulrush that sits near the water.

Tamaki River Family Tree- Te Taiao o Tāmaki

WALT: draw a family tree.

For the past few weeks we have been studying about Omaru creek and we had to draw a tree for Tamaki River because the Omaru Creek is a branch of the Tamaki River.

Silhouette- Te Taiao o Tāmaki

This terms topic was about Omaru Creek and we did art that was linked to it which is bulrushes and cabbage trees because it is in Omaru Creek. Silhouette cabbage trees and bulrushes are on the banks of the Omaru Creek. We used red and orange dye for the back and green dye for the background. We used black paint to do the cabbage trees. I enjoyed painting this.

Dragonflies- Te Taiao o Tāmaki,

Today our class made dragonflies and it was so much fun. We made them because it is linked to our topic which is Omaru Creek. People found that if their are dragonflies in the creek that means that it is a clean and fresh creek. It was so much fun making dragonflies and I hope we get to make something else that is linked to our topic.

Statistical Investigation

Walt:  conduct a statistical investigation.

We used google maps to determine the walking  distance to 124 Apirana Avenue. This is the entrance to the Omaru Creek that we are studying. The screenshot shows the route, distance and time from my house to the creek. The person that lives the furthest is Zain and it takes him 4.8km which takes 59mins to walk to the creek in Apirana Ave. Jolie lives the closest and it takes her 550m which takes her 7mins to walk to the creek in Apirana Ave. Harrison lives in East Tamaki so he was asked him to calculate how long it takes to walk from the station to Apirana Ave. Next, we will be calculating the mean and the median.

Omaru creek- Te Taiao o Tāmaki,

                   Omaru Creek

At Omaru Creek there were blockages because of fat and rubbish poured down in the drains by local residents. The maintenance crew arrived at Omaru Creek and helped clean out the rubbish in the creek, flushing the drain with clean water. The maintenance crew found things that shouldn't be in the Creek such as wipes, nappies, toys and rotting mattresses.  

The residents of the Glen Innes community and our school are trying to help clean the Omaru Creek so that it will have fresh water and look like what every other stream should look like. Our school chose the part closest to Apirana Avenue and we plan on cleaning up the creek for a few weeks. We visited it and we found a metal bucket, sticks, plants that stops the water from flowing, and rubbish everywhere.
